Choosing A Tog

A tog measurement is a European warmth rating: the higher the tog, the warmer the product. Grobag baby sleeping bags are available in three tog ratings:

2.5 tog	Ideal for standard nursery temperatures of 16-20°C (61-69°F)
1.0 tog	Use during warmer weather and in nurseries of 20-24°C (69-73°F)
0.5 tog	For hot weather and very warm nursery environments over 24-27°C (73-80°F)

What To Wear

The table below shows guidelines for the amount of clothing for your baby and the correct tog of Grobag baby sleeping bag that should be used in different nursery temperatures.

Long or short sleeved bodysuits - these are cotton body-vests with popper fastenings at the crotch. Ideal for keeping a nappy in place and for allowing baby to kick bare-legged in a Grobag.

Sleepsuit - an all-in-one cotton suit usually with popper openings up the front and legs. Some have enclosed feet, and some have ankle cuffs. A two-piece pyjama set will provide a similar level of warmth to a sleepsuit. We recommend the Socksuit Twin Pack, from £13.95 from Grobag.

Pyjama top - layering a cotton pyjama top, (or cotton long sleeved top) over a long-sleeved bodysuit provides a double layer on your babies arms. Add pyjama bottoms for extra warmth, or for playtime between bath and bedtime.

When the temperature is cooler, a pair of socks and a further long-sleeved top can be added. Do not worry if your babies hands or feet feel cool. This is normal as long as the stomach area is warm and comfortable. Never place your baby to sleep in a hat or hood. Layering extra clothing instead of adding blankets eliminates the dangers associated with loose bedding and allows your baby freedom of movement around the cot.
